THE CHALLENGE
Creating Shelter and Architectural Presence
The original entrance opened directly onto the front steps without an overhead structure. It offered little protection from rain and snow and lacked a strong architectural focal point.
The new portico needed to integrate naturally with the existing roofline, siding, windows, and masonry stoop. Its proportions and column placement also had to provide comfortable access without overwhelming the home’s compact front facade.
THE SOLUTION
Building a Gabled Front Portico
We framed a new gabled roof above the existing front stoop, aligning the structure with the doorway and the home’s roofline. Two front columns were positioned to create a balanced entrance while preserving a clear path to the door.
The new framing was carefully integrated with the existing exterior and designed to support the finished trim, arched ceiling detail, and overhead lighting. The result is a portico that feels original to the home rather than added later.

PROJECT OUTCOME
From an Uncovered Entry to a Finished Front Portico
The completed portico gives the Braintree home a clearly defined entrance while providing overhead protection at the front door. Its gabled form, finished columns, and white trim integrate naturally with the existing exterior.
The arched wood ceiling and coordinated lighting add warmth and character, transforming a simple front stoop into a more welcoming architectural feature with stronger curb appeal.
