A staircase should be more than just a way to get from Point A to Point B. It is often the first thing you see when you walk into a home, setting the tone for the entire interior.
At our latest job, Project Magnolia, we focused on turning the stairwell into a bright, modern focal point. By replacing the dated finishes with high-quality hardwood and sleek metal accents, we completely transformed the feel of the space.

Design Details: The "Tuxedo" Look For this project, we used a classic high-contrast design strategy often called the "Tuxedo" look:
The Treads: We used solid hardwood treads with a natural light stain (likely White Oak) to bring warmth and texture.
The Risers: We painted the risers and skirt boards a crisp, clean white. This makes the wood pop and keeps the stairwell feeling bright and airy.

Modern Ironwork Gone are the days of bulky, turned wood spindles. We installed black round metal balusters. This choice is crucial for two reasons:
Visual Weight: They are thinner than wood, allowing more light to pass through and making the space feel larger.
Style: The black metal provides a sharp, modern contrast against the light wood handrails.

Let There Be Light A stairwell can easily become a dark tunnel if you aren't careful. At Project Magnolia, we maximized the natural light from the landing windows. To add a touch of whimsy and warmth in the evenings, we installed a stunning "Moon" pendant light that glows softly, drawing the eye upward.
Craftsmanship in the Corners Stair work is highly technical. Every cut must be precise to avoid squeaks and gaps. As you can see from the wall-mounted handrails, we used heavy-duty black brackets that match the balusters, ensuring the rail is rock-solid for safety while looking sleek.
