Home Addition Throwback: Garage & Roof Deck Transformation in Braintree, MA

We love sharing our active job sites, but sometimes it is great to look back at completed work to see how it settles in. About a year ago, we wrapped up this massive home addition project in Braintree, MA.

The homeowners loved their location but needed more space—everywhere. The scope included expanding the kitchen and dining room, creating a cozy new living room, and adding a dedicated home office. But today, we want to focus on the exterior game-changers: the new two-car garage and the stunning flat roof deck.

A spacious two-car garage is a game-changer for New England winters.

The Ultimate Convenience: A Two-Car Garage For many older homes in Braintree, a modern, oversized garage is number one on the wish list. We built this spacious addition to give the family ample room for vehicles and storage. We finished the exterior with a modern dark siding that contrasts beautifully with the original red brick, instantly updating the home's curb appeal.

Architectural Logic: Utilizing the Flat Roof When building a large garage, you often end up with a large flat roof area. Instead of wasting that space, we turned it into a premium feature: a rooftop deck.

By engineering the garage roof to handle live loads (people and furniture), we gained hundreds of square feet of outdoor entertaining space without taking up any more of the backyard yard. It’s smart design that maximizes the property's potential.

Seamless Integration A major challenge with large additions is making sure they don't look "tacked on." As you can see from the front view, we worked hard to ensure the rooflines and materials blended seamlessly. The new windows match the style of the home, and the transition from brick to new siding feels intentional and modern.

Coming Up Next: The Interiors The outside looks great, but the inside is where the family lives. Stay tuned for our next post, where we will take you inside to see the brighter kitchen, the new home office, and the cozy living spaces we created.
