Outdated half bathroom before full bathroom conversion in Newton MA

THE CHALLENGE

Creating Space for a Full Bathroom

The original half bathroom was extremely small and outdated. The toilet and sink were positioned too close together, making the room uncomfortable to use and unsuitable as a practical guest bathroom.

Converting it into a full bathroom required removing the existing layout and carefully borrowing space from the hallway. The new plan also had to accommodate upgraded plumbing, electrical work, and a curbless steam shower without making the surrounding hallway feel cramped.

THE SOLUTION

Reworking the Layout
for a Full Bath

We removed the original half-bath layout and extended the room into part of the hallway, creating enough space for a complete bathroom without disrupting circulation through the home. The new plan allowed the toilet, vanity, and shower to sit at comfortable, code-conscious distances.

MATERIALS & DETAILS

Details That Make the Space Work

01.

A custom full-wall mirror was installed behind the vanity to reflect light and help the compact bathroom feel wider and brighter.

02.

Curbless Steam Shower

The walk-in shower was built without a curb for a cleaner transition and easier access, with the enclosure planned to support a dedicated steam system.

03.

Because the shower includes steam, the wet area received enhanced waterproofing and carefully coordinated detailing to protect the finished space.

THE FINISHED BATHROOM

A Brighter, More Complete Guest Bathroom

The completed bathroom now feels open, comfortable, and fully equipped for daily use. The expanded layout, curbless steam shower, full-wall mirror, and carefully coordinated finishes transformed an unusable half bath into a practical full bathroom for the home’s first floor.

PROJECT OUTCOME

From an Unusable Half Bath
to a Complete First-Floor Bathroom

By carefully expanding the room into the hallway and coordinating the new plumbing, electrical work, window, waterproofing, and steam shower, the former half bath became a comfortable full bathroom for everyday use and visiting guests.

The completed space feels brighter and more open, while the curbless shower and full-wall mirror give the compact room a clean, modern finish.
