We recently started work on this attic finishing project, and we wanted to share the "before" stage to show you the massive potential hidden in these dusty spaces.
The "Bones" of the Project As you can see in the photo, this attic has incredible character waiting to be revealed.
The Architecture: The twin half-round windows at the gable end are stunning. Once this room is finished, those windows will frame a beautiful view and flood the space with natural light.
The Challenge: Right now, it is just framing and insulation. You can see our tools on the floor—compressors, hoses, and nailers—as we begin the work of reinforcing the structure.
The Construction Logic: More Than Just Drywall Finishing an attic isn't as simple as putting up drywall. To make this space legal and comfortable, we have to address:
Structural Integrity: Attic floors are often built to hold boxes, not people. We often need to reinforce the floor joists to handle the "live load" of a bedroom or office.
Insulation: Heat rises. Without proper insulation (like closed-cell spray foam), an attic room will be freezing in winter and an oven in summer. We ensure the "building envelope" is tight before we close up the walls.
Headroom: We carefully plan the ceiling height to maximize the usable space while working around the slope of the roof rafters.
